More Phony Soldiers?

Here's a link to a piece in the Washington Post, 16 October 2007, in which 12 former captains in the U.S. Army describe what's really happening in Iraq. How long will it be before Rush Limbaugh calls them "phony soldiers"? That's his term for any member of the military who dares to express independent views on this disaster (see here).

I checked out your blog today. It would be nice to see you put actions before words. You can call me a "Rush Baby" but I have spent the last 16 years going around this world helping children in crsis, HIV/Aids children in Africa, Garbage dump children, in Asia, sex trade children in the middle east. Very easy for a person to sit and type but I have never meet progressives in these areas taking care of these children. Every six seconds a child dies from a lack of food. Six million die a year from malaria. 400 die every hour 24/7 from AIDS. More than that dies from unclean water. I and many of my conservative friends aren't spending time bashing people, we are letting our money and actions do the work. Funny thing, always hearing progressive say what's wrong but don't see much action in the states or around the world. If people would stop complaning, roll up their sleves, and be an example through actions we could change this world...together. We will never agree on many things but hate speech never gets anyone far (do you have kids??)Lets change this world through actions. Let our actions not words show our family, friends ,and co-workers that one person can make a difference. I have seen it happen, we live in the greatest country in the world, we got this way thru hard work. Lets work together to make this a better world! Want to see how we're trying to help make this world a better place, check out www.HopeEndeavors.com. Let's make a change by caring for people who cannot care for themselves, both here and around the world.

Rod,

Maybe you and your conservative friends could help all the poor people around the world by staying out of Wal-Mart, a company that uses slave labor to put profits before the needs of people all over God's green earth.

The truth is conservatives like Rush Linbaugh don't give a shit in hell about anything but their fascist agenda, and their never-ending, illegal, immoral war against a word (TERROR) proves it.

Why not work to end the occupation of Iraq and create peace and justice all over the world? Then you can unroll your shirt sleeves for a while and realize you've taken part in ending the cause of all the problems you work so hard to fix.(CREATE?)

I am mystified by the comment from Rod--mainly because it has virtually nothing to say about the original posting. Rod claims that conservatives do more to alleviate suffering than progressives. I doubt that's true; he provides no evidence for this claim other than personal opinion. If he indeed has spent 16 years helping children, that's admirable, a genuine contribution to improving the world. But it's irrelevant to what I wrote. He suggests that progressives engage in hate speech and "bash" people. That's ironic since one point of the post was to recall the fact that conservative Rush Limbaugh's very reason for existence is purveying hate speech. What I said was simply that people should take a look at an article in the Washington Post and that Limbaugh is on record "bashing" military critics of the Bush-Cheney occupation of Iraq. Rod's comments head off in an irrelevant direction and ignore my point.
